Start with an assessment, not a promise to rewrite.
A slow, unreliable or unfinished app may have a specific bottleneck that can be fixed. It may also have deeper issues in the data model, permissions or deployment process. The right route becomes clearer after reviewing how the product is built and operated.
The same applies to AI-generated and no-code apps. Some are a sound starting point; others need parts reworked before they can support the intended users. The tool used to create the app is less important than the behaviour and maintainability of the result.
Prepare the handover material
A team needs more than a screenshot or live URL to estimate a takeover responsibly. Establish which accounts and assets your business owns and how access can be provided securely.
- Source code or an export supported by the original platform.
- Hosting, database and app store account access.
- A list of integrations and their owners, without sending secrets in a public brief.
- Known bugs, unfinished features and examples of expected behaviour.
- Existing documentation, contracts and release history.
Choose between repair, gradual migration and rebuild
A targeted repair is appropriate when the architecture is usable and the problem is contained. Gradual migration can replace one part at a time while keeping the existing business workflow available.
A rebuild may be justified when essential changes cannot be made safely or the platform cannot support the required behaviour. It still needs a migration plan; rebuilding screens does not automatically preserve your data or business rules.
Make the transition reviewable
Agree acceptance criteria for the workflows that matter most. Validate migrated data and test permissions using representative user roles. Plan the release, backups and rollback before moving live users.
A successful takeover should leave the next developer with understandable code, documented configuration and a repeatable release process. That handover is part of the result, not an optional extra after launch.
